Learning to See Myself: My Maternity Photoshoot Experience
When I booked my maternity photoshoot, I knew I wanted it to capture more than just pretty pictures. I wanted to remember this moment—the glow, the anticipation, the transformation of becoming a mother at 39. What I didn’t expect was how much it would teach me about confidence, self-perception, and trusting the process.
Styling My Looks
For the shoot, I chose a few pieces that made me feel both stylish and comfortable—including a few pieces from Bumpsuit. I loved how it hugged my growing belly in a way that felt modern and chic, while still giving me the ease and flexibility I needed. It was important to me that the photos reflected not only my personal style but also the beauty of this season of life.
Facing My Doubts
But here’s the truth: when the camera turned toward me, I froze. I didn’t feel confident looking directly at the lens. In my head, I worried about how I looked, how my body had changed, and if I could really pull off the kind of glowing maternity moment I’d seen other women share.
That’s when my photographer, Mecca, stepped in with exactly the reassurance I needed. She reminded me that these doubts were all in my head—that I was radiant, strong, and beautiful in this moment. Her words calmed my nerves and helped me loosen up, trust her direction, and let myself be seen.
Seeing Myself Differently
When I finally saw the final images, everything shifted. The photos weren’t just beautiful—they were powerful. They showed me the glow I had been too distracted to notice in the mirror. They captured the love, excitement, and pride I felt in carrying my daughter.
Most of all, they reminded me how often we women doubt ourselves in moments when we should be celebrating. I realized how quickly I had questioned my own beauty, even while living through one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
Looking at those images, I fell in love with my growing belly, my changing body, and the reminder that confidence isn’t about perfection—it’s about seeing yourself with kindness and pride.
This photoshoot wasn’t just about capturing memories—it was about reclaiming my confidence, one click of the camera at a time.
